This page explains what personal information we collect on the Shy Publishing Corp. website, how we use it, who we share it with, and what choices you have.

What we collect

What you give us: your name, school or company, email address, phone number, shipping and billing addresses, what you order and any notes; the details of a Teacher’s Guide request (role, grades, subject and how you plan to use it); your email address for the mailing list; and messages you send us.

Payments: card details go directly to our payment provider and are never stored on our servers.

Collected automatically: your IP address and browser details in our server logs and for security and abuse prevention, and cookies (see below).

How we use it

To process and ship orders; to send order confirmations, invoices and tracking details; to answer your questions and requests; to send updates to people who ask for them; to prevent fraud and abuse; and to keep accounting records and meet legal requirements.

Mailing list and email

We add your email to our mailing list only if you ask us to, using the sign-up form in the footer or the tick-box when you order. Every marketing message has an unsubscribe link, and we honor requests right away and in any case within 10 business days. Messages about your own order (confirmation, invoice, tracking) are still sent to people who have unsubscribed.

Cookies

We use only the cookies the site needs to work: a session cookie that remembers your shopping cart and protects our forms, a cookie that remembers your choice in the cookie notice, and a cookie that remembers your language if you pick one. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.

Some pages include content from others, such as an audio preview player from SoundCloud, fonts from Google Fonts, and links to FedEx tracking. Those companies have their own privacy policies and may see your IP address and set their own cookies.

Who we share it with

Only with those needed to run the store: our payment provider, shipping carriers (mostly FedEx, sometimes UPS, USPS or DHL), our email delivery service, our hosting, database and file-storage providers, and professional advisers such as an accountant or lawyer; and with authorities when the law requires it. We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for advertising.

How long we keep it

Order and invoice records are kept as long as needed for accounting, tax and legal purposes. Mailing-list addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Teacher’s Guide requests are kept as long as needed to handle them.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including an encrypted connection to the site and limited access. No method is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

You can ask to see the information we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted (subject to our duty to keep order records), and you can unsubscribe at any time. People in some places, such as California, the European Union and the United Kingdom, may have additional rights; we will do our best to respond to any reasonable request. To make a request, contact us.

Children

This site is for teachers, schools and parents and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Visitors outside the United States

The site is run from the United States, and information you give us will be processed and stored there.

Changes to this page

We will change the date at the top when we update this page, and post significant changes on the site.
