Created to help students learn

When Dr. Shahar and Dr. Rina Yonay looked for materials to teach Hebrew and Jewish subjects, they saw a need for books that could do more than present information. Students needed clear, thoughtfully structured materials that could help them understand and learn.

So they began creating their own.

Founded in 1985, SHY Publishing draws on the founders’ scholarship and more than a century of combined educational experience. Dr. Shahar earned a Ph.D. in Educational Administration and has worked in school administration, supervision, teaching, and teacher education. Dr. Rina Yonay earned a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology. Together, they have taught students of different ages in Israel and the United States.

Today, Shy Publishing offers approximately 150 workbooks in Hebrew language and grammar, Bible, Jewish law and customs, Mishnah, and Gemara. Created for learners from kindergarten through high school, the books use systematic instruction and reflect Jewish tradition and values, including religious, moral, national, and humanitarian values.

Our purpose remains the same: to give educators carefully developed materials they can teach with confidence, and to help students build understanding as they learn.
